And with that, Aware draws to a close.

This comic became a lot bigger than I thought it would. When I first started it up, I didn't have much in mind, other than the basic plot, some things that needed to happen, and characters who needed to appear. The idea at the time was to do something with sprites that was simple and fun, after the massive sprite-turned-drawn comic extravaganza that was {MUTE}. But as I went, ideas started forming, and events started happening- and before I even really knew it, I knew where this story was going and what would wind up happening. My freeform style of making stuff meant I could adjust and change things as I went along, but it pretty quickly became apparent that there were some iron pillars in place that needed to happen along the way.

Going through the comic, I wish I could say I had perfectly planned everything out, and was this weird genius who had come up with everything that was going to happen and had it all set in stone where all that was left was to implement it. But a lot of what happened along the way was because of other people, or because of whims I felt like following. Két losing her wind powers, believe it or not, was actually something that wasn't going to happen originally! The powers were as much a part of her being as the awareness was. But a review of the comic gave me a different perspective on the matter, and before I really even knew it, her losing those powers she'd considered a part of herself for so long was a major plot point that took a while for her to come to terms with. Stuff like that happened a lot- the entire Wonderland sequence was inspired by someone's review saying that Niv was the real antagonist because Author Stuff; the idea of Damaru and Silverado as Backup Protagonists happened because Két was in Z’s comic and I didn't want to just go on hiatus or something while she was busy over there, so I asked the readers what I should do to progress the comic in the meantime; the entirety of the Taco Incident happened shortly after Aware started, giving me a mysterious storm of a major character in the form of RP!Két; and that's not even getting started on the fact that I let people submit ideas for places that Két could go on her adventure!

Fact of the matter is, for everything that was planned as a thing that had to happen, there was just as much of it that got made up along the way, and things that got made up along the way like that wound up circling back around to influence things that needed to happen. Két talking to Muddy in World [4], for example, was sort of just a way to pass the time to put some distance between “Muddy tempts fate” and “Damaru shows up”; but them talking about their friends meant that, at some point, I had to go into who Lîz was and why Két had such an aversion to talking about her. Blair, who became a major character in his own right, was only created sometime after Aware first started, and his personality developed largely as a direct result of what happened in the comic. The excuse plot I put into place so Két had a reason to go from World to World in the first place started becoming less and less of an excuse and more and more of a plot as time went on as the ramifications of something like that being the final Objective, so to speak, became more clear; not to mention the inherent meta-factors of the comic meant that those aware of the fourth wall (read: RP!Két) might have some issue with the fact that the plot was an excuse to begin with. Aware grew into its own as time went on, becoming something much more than I could have initially even guessed it could become.

As does tend to be the case in any given series, there's things I wish I had done differently for Aware. The main one just being that I wish I'd given more context for things when they showed up. When Aware first started, I was still stuck in a tendency to assume that people were familiar with the other comics I made, and the other things I've worked on- and as a result, a lot of characters and interactions only wound up being explained long after they'd already happened. The biggest example I can think of is World [3]- it was meant to be this Big Deal that Glandor was the bad guy and Yamaha/Abbadon was the good guy, but it wound up falling kind of flat thanks to the fact that the only way people would know who these characters were is if they were familiar with my own work from before Aware. I should have had World [3] instead be a more normal version of Anteria, where Két meets Glandor, Cendar, and Rupph, and the four are trying to stop Abbadon from being a mean or something; that way, people would have had context for the twisted version that would be later down the line (it might replace World [9] or something?) so the reveal of ‘Glandor is the bad guy and Abbadon is the good guy’ would have had more impact on the audience. Well, what's done is done- and it's not like that's a small error I can just fix and be done with. For better or worse, that's the way that arc happened, and it was a learning experience for me in the form of ‘give context for your plot twists for FLUFF’S SAKE-’

Anyway, Aware has been a… learning experience. It's been fun and I've learned a lot, but I didn't want to draw this out longer than it needed to go. In theory, I could have kept it going basically indefinitely- the nature of the excuse plot would have allowed for that- but there's only so many adventures you can have before you start suffering from Detective Conan syndrome. The stories themselves may be entertaining, but you can only have so many of the same basic plots before people get tired of it and either want something new or want the plot- excuse or not- to have some semblance of resolution or progression. I didn't want that to happen with Aware; even if the audience didn't tire of it, I would, and working on something when you haven't got the drive to do so is just… exhausting, physically and emotionally. There are a lot of different ways that this comic could have ended… but in the end, it felt symbolically appropriate to end the comic by also ending Két and Silvena. Silvena was too big of a threat to be left alive, and Két… well, it just sorta felt right to have Comic!Két be what brought the comic to an end.

It may not be the happiest of endings, but it's an ending. Such is the way life is sometimes - bad things happen because of stuff entirely out of our control. You may feel lost and alone, but there are almost certainly people who care about you- and if not now, then press on until you find them. Aware is, if nothing else, a lesson on just how suddenly bad things can happen even to people who do nothing but help others. How you can be strong and still lose things you care about. How sometimes, you're just too late to save someone you care about. Life is hard, life is stressful. And life is the most painful thing that there is.

Thank you, to everyone who came along for the ride; to everyone who helped me get through it; to everyone who contributed in their own way; to everyone who was on this journey with me. Aware may be over, but we live in a vast and endless universe- there are more stories just around the corner. Without a Shadow of a doubt, for my next project I'd like to do something on an Interplanetary scale once again.

Even though Aware is done, there's still comics to make, and stories to tell. Still things to see and do, still places to go and be. I'll keep moving forwards, onto the next project, and beyond that still. Making comics and stories is what keeps me going- and I hope that you all find what keeps you going as well.

To quote a songwriter I enjoy listening to… It’s a long, long, long journey that we've been on; and it's a long, long, long story that can be told. And it’s a long, long day and we've come a long, long way; but there's still a long way to go. It's a long, long, long way, it's a long, long strong way… It's a long, long, long way... forward.

And I'll see you on the other side of the next button.

Final thoughts I got to say that this sprite comic has been quite the interesting and emotional tale to read through. I was so invested that I woke up at odd hours to see the latest page that gets uploaded.

I have mixed feelings about the finale here.

One hand, I can understand what are you trying to convey here and can accept it to a certain degree.

On the other hand, I was hoping that Comic Ket would escape her infamous fate and successfully carry out her main task, since I have been rooting for her after what she has been through.

Managing to forge a bond with someone who can take down the goddess as her final accomplishment is admirable, but I also felt that Comic Ket deserved a better end to her story.

Still, I’m glad that I have read Aware, and I wish you well with your other stuff in the future.

final thoughts in a form of an epilogue @Shard: -insert Black Mesa end credits theme 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtr--EJKAZE -

Silvana is dead... two lives were lost... and at the end RP!ket finished the quest that Comic!ket has started.. many hardships and meeting new comrades.. also memories of pain and loss such as Ket losing her childhood friend liz... but at the end.. well.. lets just say.. RP!ket earns a long vacation now that her quest is complete.. so ends the story.. the story of.. Aware...

I shall miss this comic, I really wish both Kets were alive to the finish but at least Comic Ket is with her best friend again. Sayonara Ket may your adventures continue even in the next world beyond the veil.

It was a enjoyable comic, I sorta wish I was able to make contribution when the world requests were a thing buts thats eh'. Best of luck on future endeavours.

Anyway... @Shard:

You’re welcome, Shard. So I was thinking of doing a fan comic story in the future where Comic Ket is mysteriously reborn in a new body in a new dimension as she goes looking for answers to how and why she is alive again and what purpose she needs to do this time.

I hope it would be alright with you if I am permitted to do this fan comic of mine.

Aww the comic is over. I have to say, a very well done in completing this. It would be worth reading and I would recommend this to any webcomic reader. It was interesting for Ket to explore the multiverse worlds and interact with others. Still sucks that Ket is dead, though Silvena got what she deserved. To be really honest, I feel like this could have better for Ket to be still alive at the end.

Personally, I did enjoy reading through this last year, but I feel very guilty of not coming here soon enough so that I would stick around here longer.

Congrats on finishing this though, and I wish you luck on what you are planning next. It is, indeed a super unique sprite comic. ;3

@RoninHunt0987- It's OK; but you don't need to use ellipses for everything.
@plokman- To infinity, and beyond.
@Chunck.co- Thank you.
@TOMSMANGA- As long as you give proper credit and keep her in character, that should be fine. If there's something you're not sure of, run it by me.
@foxpuff- You can check the news- I went into detail there!
@JovanW- Thank you.

Although I've been used by the Westernized idea that we, the audience is obligated to have a happy ending (you know, due to what would make the audience likely happy)...I throughly enjoyed the wild ride this comic was, despite the somberness of the denouement.

Looking forward to your next work, Shard! Thank you for your storytelling :)
