Wait Mac?! I got this!
First, open up system preferences,
Then, go to network settings,
On the bottom there should be a assist me button (or similar diagnostic button that is not the '?' Button), click it
It will bring up a question dialog, don't press the button for creating a new network
the other button will bring up the 'network diagnostics' application
Let me know when you have completed the steps withing the network diagnostics app, or if there is trouble reaching that step.
If network diagnostics doesn't fix your ip problem, then we will have to go to the advanced way of doing things
(Checking what's broke with the network utility, followed by shell terminal unix-magic/code)
Most windows programers never learn sufficient msdos to be able to do what I will attempt to walk you through the unix version of if the low-programming mode fails.
Most windows users assume that you can't program on Mac, this is false. There simply isn't an intermediate level programming language built for Mac.
